Ibex Hills and the northern reaches of the Avawatz Mountains dominate this arid landscape at the edge of the Mojave. In 1948, the region was defined by a sparse network of springs and mining claims, including the Superior Mine, Whitecap Mine, and Saratoga Mine. Water sources like Saratoga Spr and Old Mormon Spr provided critical infrastructure for prospecting and travel through the Old Ibex Pass.
