The Pawnee Buttes rise as the defining landmark of this high plains landscape within the Pawnee National Grassland of Weld County. This 2013 survey shows a terrain defined by subtle water sources and remote ranching infrastructure. Vital water points for livestock and wildlife are scattered throughout the draws, including Reisburg Spring, De Moss Spring, and The Wolf Spring. The drainage network of North Pawnee Creek and Igo Creek carves through the shortgrass prairie, while man-made improvements like the Buttes Windmill and Durbin Windmill reflect the ongoing agricultural utility of the land. A strictly maintained grid of rural routes, such as CO Road 123 and CO Road 110, provides the only access across these expansive township sections.
