Pecan Island is a distinctive chenier plain community in Vermilion Parish, where habitable land is defined by elevated ridges amidst expansive coastal wetlands. This 2018 survey documents the geography of these ridges, including Front Ridge and Back Ridge, which provide the foundation for local settlements and the primary transit corridor of Front Ridge Rd. These narrow strips of higher ground are geological remnants of ancient shorelines, contrasting sharply with the surrounding marsh and the southern reaches of White Lake.
