The Pechanga Indian Reservation and Pala Indian Reservation dominate this landscape along the Riverside and San Diego county line in the late 1990s. The region is marked by a legacy of gem mining, with several significant sites concentrated near Tourmaline Queen Mountain, including the Tourmaline Queen Mine, Pala Chief Mine, and the Stewart Mine. These workings indicate the area's geological importance for tourmaline and other minerals within the Peninsular Ranges.

Community and institutional life is anchored by locations such as San Gabriel Ch, a local Cem, and an Indian Burial Ground near Temecula Creek. To the west, the Rainbow Conservation Camp sits near the base of Mount Olympus. Much of the eastern portion of the map is preserved within the Cleveland National Forest and the Agua Tibia Wilderness, where Agua Tibia Mountain rises above the drainage of Pechanga Creek.
