Kupreanof Island defines the heart of this survey, dominated by the heavily timbered reaches of the Tongass National Forest. The landscape is marked by high-elevation terrain including Greberg Mountain, Greberg Ridge, and the distinct Marble Knobs to the north. A network of primitive routes and forest passages, such as Keku Strait, Dear John, and the aptly named Not Nice, provide access through the interior. Numerous drainage systems carve through the slopes, including Hamilton Creek and Big John Creek, which flow toward the lower elevations. The boundary of the Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area and Petersburg Borough bisects the southeastern portion of the map, illustrating the administrative divisions within this maritime forest environment.
