Along the northern edge of the map, the town of Alberton and the small station at Lothrop are linked by two major railroads: the Northern Pacific and the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific. These competing lines follow the river’s bend, reflecting the critical role of rail infrastructure in the Mineral and Missoula County borderlands.

Away from the river, the landscape rises into the namesake Petty Mountain and Martin Point, where resource extraction and backcountry access dominate.
