Pickford and its surrounding townships in the eastern Upper Peninsula are defined by a complex network of waterways feeding toward the Great Lakes. The Munuscong River and its tributaries, including the East Branch Munuscong River and Sanderson Creek, meander through a low-lying landscape of farm fields and forest tracts before reaching the marshy expanse of Munuscong Lake and Lake Huron. The drainage patterns here reveal the historical importance of these wetlands for both local navigation and early logging efforts in Chippewa County.
