Little Lagoon dominates this coastal landscape, separating the mainland from the slender barrier peninsula where Pine Beach and the western reaches of Gulf Shores are situated. The 1980 survey captures the transition between the marshy bayous of Bon Secour Bay and the open Gulf of Mexico. Along the northern shore of the lagoon, small settlements like Palmetto Beach and Cedar Grove are established near low-lying points such as Eugene Pt and Childress Pt.
