Comanche National Grassland dominates this high-plains landscape in Las Animas County, where the topography transitions from rolling open range into a series of pronounced mesas and canyons. The drainage of Pintada Creek and Tecolate Cr defines the northern and central portions of the map, while the southern reaches are marked by the dramatic rise of Tecolate Mesa and the peak of Mt Carrizo along the eastern edge. A network of county roads, including Co RD 34 and Co RD 219, provides access through the public lands and section lines of the Public Land Survey System. The presence of Dripping Springs and the deep cut of Baldy Canyon in the southwest corner illustrate the critical importance of water and sheltered terrain in this arid environment.
