Joshua Tree National Park encompasses most of this landscape, dominated by the stark topography of the Pinto Mountains and the northern reach of the Hexie Mountains. The terrain transitions from the high peaks of Pinto Mtn down into the expansive Pinto Basin, a notable geographical feature within the Mojave Desert. This arid environment is defined by its complex drainage network, where seasonal watercourses like Fried Liver Wash, Washington Wash, and the primary Pinto Wash carve through the alluvial fans.
