Stansbury Island dominates the western portion of this landscape, rising sharply from the eastern margins of the Great Salt Lake. This 2011 survey captures the interface between the desert island's complex topography and the fluctuating waters of Cradle Bay. The terrain is defined by a series of rugged drainage systems, including Ben Allen Canyon, Cane Canyon, and Shanty Canyon, which cut through the island's interior toward the shore. Vital water sources like Cane Spring and Shanty Spring are tucked within these canyons, providing rare freshwater points in an otherwise arid environment. High points such as Plug Peak and the distinctive Castle Rock provide significant landmarks for navigation, while the northern tip at Morgan Point looks out across the Fremont Strait, illustrating the geological isolation of the landform within the lake basin.
