Lake Champlain defines the eastern character of this region, where the shoreline is punctuated by prominent features such as Willsboro Point and Schuyler Island. Inland from the coastal waters of Corlear Bay and Willsboro Bay, the landscape rises into the protected boundaries of the Adirondack Park. This area is characterized by a dense network of water bodies, including Augur Lake, Highlands Forge Lake, and the winding course of the Ausable River near Keeseville.
