The low-lying piney woods of Beauregard Parish are defined here by an intricate drainage system feeding into Barnes Creek. In the mid-1980s, the landscape around the small settlements of Tulla and Farris shows a mix of rural infrastructure and industry, from the Gravel Pit in the southeast to several pipelines cutting through the timberland. A decommissioned Old Railroad Grade runs along the western edge, marking a corridor once vital for the local timber or transport economy.
