Red Dog Table rises as a prominent landform above the surrounding drainage networks in this section of Oglala Lakota County. The landscape is defined by the winding course of the White River, which carves through the southern portion of the quadrangle. A dense network of ephemeral streams feeds into this main artery, including the branching paths of E Horse Cr and its counterpart W Horse Cr. To the north, Wolf Canyon and Sand Cr mark the transition toward more dissected terrain. This 2012 survey illustrates the remote character of the region, where named settlements are absent in favor of these large-scale geographic features. The map captures a moment in the early 21st century before major shifts in land management or nomenclature, providing a detailed record of the natural hydrology and topographical landmarks that have long served as points of orientation in this part of South Dakota.
