Lake Wohlford and the complex system of the Escondido Canal define this portion of San Diego County, where the hills north of Escondido meet the southern reaches of the Cleveland National Forest. The landscape is a transition between the developing residential pockets in Woods Valley and the steep, named peaks like Rodriguez Mtn and French Mtn. These ridges are separated by a series of distinct flatlands and canyons, including Sycamore Flats, Boden Canyon, and Rockwood Canyon.
