Round Mountain and Peaked Mtn dominate the central relief of this northern Maine landscape, which straddles the border between Aroostook and Piscataquis counties. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent ridges, including Moose Ridge and Lovejoy Ridge, separated by a network of drainage brooks and secluded water bodies. Large basins such as Rowe Lake in the north and the cluster of Spectacle Pond, Lost Pond, and Center Pond in the southeast suggest a landscape heavily influenced by glacial activity. Transport in this remote timberland area is limited to established woods routes like Jack Mountain Rd and Week Pond Rd, which provide access to the high elevations of Mid Mtn and Bartlett Mtn. This 2018 survey highlights the preserved character of the Maine woods, where waterways like Chase Brook and Lovejoy Brook continue to carve through the uplands.
