Rugby and its surrounding Cumberland Plateau landscape appear here within a complex network of high ridges and deep creek drainages. This area is defined by the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, where the Clear Fork river winds through sharp topographical features like Red Cliff and Horseshoe Bend. The settlement pattern reflects the difficult terrain, with small communities such as Brewstertown and Burrville connected by winding mountain roads like Rugby Hwy. Numerous family and community burial sites, including the Rugby Cem, Nydeck Cem, and Morris Cem, are scattered across the quadrangle, often situated on higher ground or near historic church sites. To the south, the terrain levels slightly near Sunbright, where the landscape transitions into the broader valley of White Oak Creek.
