The Florida River and its numerous tributaries, including Red Cr and the fork system of Texas Cr, carve a complex drainage pattern through this section of the San Juan National Forest. The landscape is defined by significant elevation changes, from the prominent Rules Hill and Rabbit Mtn to the deeply cut Wallace Gulch and Holman Canyon. Toward the eastern edge, the Los Pinos River flows near the settlement of Columbus, where agricultural water management is evidenced by the Womer Ditch.
