Nez Perce National Forest and Bitterroot National Forest converge at the high-altitude divide between Idaho and Montana. The 2017 survey documents a landscape of high summits and glacial cirques, characterized by prominent features like Saddle Mtn and the Goat Heaven Peaks. Water drains from these heights through a network of steep canyons, including the headwaters of the E Fork Moose Cr, Battle Cr, and Wahoo Cr. High-country crossing points are clearly marked, including the historically significant Lost Horse Pass and Wahoo Pass, which connect the drainage basins across the state line. Smaller alpine water bodies such as Battle Lake, Upper Twin Lake, and Park Lake dot the basins below the peaks, illustrating the classic topography of the Northern Rockies. The map also delineates the precise boundary between Idaho County and Ravalli County, tracing the crest of the divide.
