The Atlantic Ocean dominates this offshore survey south of Sag Harbor on the eastern tip of Long Island. Unlike typical terrestrial maps, this 2011 sheet provides a detailed maritime perspective of the coastal waters within the Sag Harbor OE S quadrangle. The map is primarily a hydrographic study of the open sea, focused on the deep-water expanses south of the Hamptons. It serves as a specific spatial record of the maritime environment and coordinate systems utilized by the U.S. Geological Survey at the start of the second decade of the millennium, documenting the oceanic approaches to the South Fork.
