Sage Hen Flats occupies a high plateau in the high desert of Harney and Lake Counties, where water management is central to the landscape's character. In this 2020 survey, the scattered network of Sage Hen Cr, Rock Reservoir, and Dixon Waterhole illustrates the critical infrastructure required for ranching and wildlife in this arid region. The terrain is defined by dramatic depressions like The Potholes and the rising elevations of the Sage Hen Hills and Sage Hen Canyon. Human presence is marked primarily by Ackley Camp Rd, which provides access across the rugged county line between Lake and Harney Counties. This modern topographic study captures the essential geological and hydrological features, including Sage Hen Spring, that dictate the movement of people and livestock across this part of the Oregon interior.
