Sandgap and the surrounding Jackson County highlands are defined by a complex network of ridges and narrow hollows, largely protected within the Daniel Boone National Forest. This 2019 survey captures the modern landscape of small settlements like Waneta and Hurley that follow the winding valley roads. The topography is dominated by prominent rises such as Carpenter Ridge and Panther Ridge, which dictate the flow of numerous waterways including Clover Bottom Cr and Indian Cr.
