Sargents Mesa forms the heart of this high-elevation landscape, where the administrative boundaries of the Gunnison National Forest and Rio Grande National Forest meet. The geography is defined by a complex network of drainage basins, including the headwaters of Dutchman Cr and Templeton Cr. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trl winds through the center of the sheet, tracing the high ridges between Firebox Park and the rugged slopes near Long Branch Baldy.
