Wenatchee National Forest encompasses the high-altitude terrain of this central Washington quadrangle, defined by a complex network of glacial valleys and steep ridgelines. The Chiwawa River and Napeequa River flow through the deep canyons that border Chiwawa Ridge, while smaller water bodies like Schaefer Lake and the Twin Lakes are tucked into the high basins. The drainage patterns are intricate, with Schaefer Cr, Big Meadow Creek, and Rock Creek carving out the landscape between prominent peaks such as Crook Mtn and McCall Mtn. Humans have left few permanent marks here, though the Rock Creek Tie trail suggests the long-standing routes used to navigate these elevations. The presence of numerous protraction blocks, such as PB 42 and PB 45, indicates areas where traditional land surveys were deferred due to the steep and inaccessible geography of the North Cascades region.
