Glacier Peak Wilderness and Wenatchee National Forest dominate this high-elevation landscape in the Entiat Mountains. The terrain is defined by dramatic verticality, with heights ranging from the Chiwawa River valley floor up to the summits of Crook Mtn and McCall Mtn. Water systems are central to the topography, characterized by the remote Schaefer Lake and the Twin Lakes complex, which are accessible only via a network of primitive paths like the Schaefer Lake Trl and Twin Lakes Trl. The placement of Chiwawa Ridge and Estes Ridge illustrates the sharp drainage divides that separate the many creeks, including Rock Creek and Big Meadow Creek, as they flow toward the lower valleys of Central Washington.
