Scopan Lake dominates this Aroostook County landscape, its eastern shoreline defined by a series of points and coves including Birch Point, White Point, and Big Cove. The terrain rises sharply from the water to the prominent ridgeline of Scopan Mtn and Scopan Knob, separated from Chandler Mtn to the north by the geological depression of The Notch. This interior Maine region is characterized by its network of watercourses, such as the N Br Presque Isle Stream and Shields Brook, which drain the timberlands between the peaks. Local life and industry are marked by small settlements and clearings like Walker, Huson Landing, and Swanback Clearing. A network of logging and local roads, including W Chapman Rd and Seven Islands Rd, provides access through the heavy woods and over Huson Ridge.
