Lost Nation occupies a central position within this northeastern Vermont landscape, a place where the headwaters of several major river systems diverge among high peaks. The terrain is dominated by the Seneca Mtn and the East Haven Range, which serve as a significant drainage divide. To the west, Howard Brook and La Pawac Brook feed into the Passumpsic River, while to the east and south, the West Branch and East Branch converge to form the Moose River.

Evidence of long-standing local occupancy is found at the Howard Family Cem near the junction of Island Pond Rd and Howard Brook Rd. The map also delineates the high-altitude boundary between Caledonia and Essex counties, which follows the ridgelines near Bull Mtn.
