The maritime gateway of Ballard and the rugged shoreline of Magnolia Bluff dominate this study of Seattle's northwestern coastline. The landscape is defined by the vital link between Puget Sound and the freshwater interior via the Lake Washington Ship Canal, a corridor lined with industrial and recreational hubs including the Salmon Bay Fishermens Terminal and Ballard Mill Marina. To the south, the expansive Fort Lawton Military Reservation preserves a significant portion of the coast, containing the Fort Lawton Military Cemetery.
