Cave Valley defines the central topography of this Great Basin landscape, situated between the high ridges of the Schell Creek Range to the east and the rugged western slopes of the Egan Range. This 2018 survey documents a region where water is the primary sculptor of the land, visible through the ephemeral drainage of Cave Valley Wash and its tributary, Big Spring Wash. The presence of Quartzite Spring on the eastern slopes indicates the critical, localized water sources that have historically supported ranching and transit through this high-altitude basin. Toward the south, Sawmill Canyon cuts into the mountains, suggesting earlier resource extraction or local industry in a landscape primarily navigated by the long north-south stretches of N Cave Valley Rd and S Cave Valley Rd.
