About this map

The Siuslaw River dominates the northern reaches of this coastal landscape, where the settlement of Florence and the nearby community of Glenada serve as anchors along the Oregon Coast Highway. The terrain is defined by a series of significant freshwater bodies separated from the Pacific Ocean by a narrow coastal strip, including Woahink Lake, Siltcoos Lake, and Tahkenitch Lake. This 1941-updated survey illustrates the critical transportation corridor of the Southern Pacific railroad as it winds through the timberlands of the Siuslaw National Forest. Inland, small landings and stops such as Cushman, Canary, and Ada Sta highlight the localized economy of the river-and-rail era. The inclusion of Miller State Park and Honeyman State Park reflects the early development of public recreation areas amidst the complex drainage systems of Fiddle Creek and Maple Creek.
