Adirondack Park Preserve lands dominate this central New York wilderness area, characterized by a complex network of high peaks and drainage basins. The landscape is defined by the Cedar River, which winds south to north through the western half of the sheet, joined by numerous tributaries such as Payne Brook and Colvin Brook. These watercourses carve paths through a succession of summits, including the prominent Snowy Mtn, Lewey Mtn, and Water Barrel Mtn.
