The Oswegatchie River carves a winding path through the western reaches of this landscape, anchoring a series of small rural communities on the edge of the Adirondack Park. In the early 21st century, these settlements including South Edwards and Pond Settlement remain connected by a network of local routes like Old State Hwy 58 and E Pitcairn South Edwards Rd. The topography is defined by significant wetlands and water bodies, ranging from the isolated Warden Pond and Hall Lake in the interior to the cluster of ponds in the south, such as Smith Pond and Partlow Pond.
