The Desert Mountains anchor the southern edge of this landscape, rising above the arid Lahontan Valley south of the regional hub. This high-desert terrain is defined by a sophisticated water management system critical to the local agricultural economy, featuring the G Line Canal and an extensive network of irrigation channels including the Gummow Drain, G-Line Drain, and the G Line Extension Drain. The eastern portion of the map is dominated by the Carson Lake Pasture, where the low-lying topography suggests a seasonally shifting wetland environment influenced by the W Carson Lake Drain. Rural infrastructure is mapped through local corridors such as Pasture Rd and Singer Rd, providing access to the wide basins between the mountain slopes and the drainage works. This 2014 survey documents the persistence of the Newlands Project’s legacy in shaping the Churchill County landscape.
