Bliss Camp and the Mineola Hunting Camp mark the human presence in this densely forested portion of Aroostook County. The landscape is defined by the complex drainage network of the North Branch Blackwater River and its southern counterpart, which converge as they flow through the interior timberlands. This 2011 survey captures the primitive road system required for backcountry access, including Blackwater Rd and Tie Camp Rd, which navigate the various crossings of Spinney Brook and Beaver Brook. The presence of the Rips Dam on the West Branch Presque Isle Stream indicates historic water management for logging or power in a region otherwise dominated by remote waterways like Tie Camp Brook and Howe Brook.
