Stafford and its outlying industrial hamlets are defined by the winding course of the Willimantic River and Furnace Brook in this 2012 survey of Tolland County. The landscape retains its character as a collection of distinct textile and milling centers, including Hydeville and Staffordville to the northeast. Settlement patterns remain clustered around these historic water privileges, even as residential growth extends toward Lake View Terrace and Crystal Lake.
