Stripe Mountain and the surrounding high country of the Clearwater and Salmon River mountains dominate this late twentieth-century landscape on the border of Idaho and Lemhi counties. The terrain is defined by massive protected wilderness areas, including the Selway - Bitterroot Wilderness and the Frank Church - River of No Return Wilderness. Human presence is sparse, limited primarily to seasonal outposts like Base Camp in the north and the Swet Lake Cabin near the center of the sheet.
