About this map

Nez Perce National Forest and the Bitterroot National Forest converge in this high-elevation Idaho landscape, where the Salmon River Breaks Primitive Area defines the southern reach. The terrain is marked by sharp ridgelines and isolated water bodies, including MacArthur Lake, Stillman Lake, and the Burnt Knob Lakes tucked beneath Burnt Knob. A network of historic paths, such as the Pack Trail, provided the primary means of traversal through this roadless territory in the late 1970s.
