Swift Run Gap serves as a primary geographic anchor for this portion of Shenandoah National Park, where the high ridgeline separating Rockingham and Greene counties is traversed by both Skyline Dr and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. The landscape is defined by deep hollows and prominent summits such as Hightop and Bush Mtn. To the west, small communities like Beldor and Sandy Bottom sit along the upper reaches of Swift Run and Hawksbill Cr.
