The Horns and the high summits of the Bigelow Range dominate this section of the Maine interior, where the Appalachian National Scenic Trail traverses the ridgeline between Mt Bigelow W Peak and Avery Peak. The landscape is defined by the expansive waters of Flagstaff Lake, which surrounds Hurricane Island and reaches toward the base of Jim Eaton Hill.
