Appalachian National Scenic Trail traverses the high peaks of the Bigelow Range in this high-altitude section of the Maine woods. The ridge line is defined by prominent summits including Mt Bigelow, West Peak, and Avery Peak, while the northern slopes drop sharply toward the massive expanse of Flagstaff Lake. Near the Franklin and Somerset county line, the trail passes The Horns Pond and The Horns, offering a clear view of the complex water systems to the north, including Spring Lake and Hurricane Brook.
