Assateague Island National Seashore dominates the eastern half of this coastal landscape, separated from the mainland by a complex network of bays and narrows. The geography is defined by the thin barrier of Assateague Island and the expansive waters of Sinepuxent Bay and Chincoteague Bay. Along the western shore, developed residential pockets like Golf Club Shores and Lower Sinepuxent Neck contrast with the largely untouched marshlands and small islands that dot the coastal interior.
