The Green River carves a massive, serpentine path through this high desert region, defining the dramatic boundary between Canyonlands National Park and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The landscape is dominated by stark topographical shifts from the river bottom at Tuxedo Bottom and Unknown Bottom up to the elevated plateau of Island in the Sky. Centered in a major river bend, the Turks Head formation stands as a prominent landmark above the Stillwater Canyon section of the river.
