Monument Mountain and Snowslide Mountain dominate the northern skyline of this Gallatin County high country, where the landscape is defined by a dense network of alpine drainages. The area is a significant headwaters region, feeding the Tepee Creek system which winds through the namesake Upper Tepee Basin and Tepee Basin. Named landmarks such as Ernest Miller Ridge and Red Mountain indicate a history of local naming and high-elevation exploration. The complex topography includes numerous summits like Sage Peak and Redstreak Peak, separated by steep valleys including the Bacon Rind Creek drainage. This 2011 survey illustrates the land before major modern alterations, showing the established trails and ridges used for generations to navigate these southern Montana heights.
