Venator Canyon carves a deep north-south path through the high desert of the Oregon Outback, marking a dramatic geological divide along the border of Lake and Harney counties. This arid landscape is defined by its intermittent hydrology and specialized infrastructure, featuring the high-elevation Alkali Lake State Airport and the descriptively named Alkali Water Haul road. The western portion of the map is dominated by the Alkali Valley, where the waters of N Alkali Lake sit below the western slopes of Horse Mtn. To the east of the canyon, the terrain rises toward localized catchments like Woods Lake and Rehart Lake. The mapping of Lower Venator Crk and the surrounding Alkali Buttes provides a clear view of the drainage patterns in this remote region during the early 21st century.
