Manti-Lasal National Forest encompasses much of this high-desert landscape in San Juan County, characterized by a complex network of drainages and mesas. The Dark Canyon Plateau dominates the northern portion of the quadrangle, where the terrain drops sharply into Dark Canyon and its various tributaries, including Dark Canyon W and Dark Canyon N Fork. This area of the Colorado Plateau shows a reliance on seasonal and permanent water sources for land management, evidenced by the presence of Sweet Alice Spring, Cooper Spring, and Cooper Reservoir.
