Washburn Basin defines the high-desert landscape along the border between Nevada and Oregon, where the drainage systems of Washburn Cr and Little Washburn Cr carve through the high plateaus of Humboldt County. The terrain is marked by seasonal water sources and named landmarks that reflect a history of ranching and remote navigation, including Old Corral Spring and the prominent Black Mtn to the south.

A network of canyons and ridges, such as Basco Canyon and the extensive Long Ridge, dominates the topography. The map illustrates a landscape largely shaped by its hydrology, with Frances Cr and Riser Cr flowing through steep-walled basins. This remote section of the Great Basin shows little modern development, preserving the original surveying of the Oregon-Nevada state line and the boundary between Malheur and Humboldt counties.
