Joshua Tree National Park encompasses much of this arid landscape, where the high Mojave Desert meets the distinct topography of the Hexie Mountains and the Cottonwood Mountains. The drainage patterns here reveal a complex network of seasonal waterways, most notably Washington Wash and Porcupine Wash, which carve through the desert floor toward the Cottonwood Basin.
