The Amite River carves a winding path through the center of this landscape, marking the boundary between East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parishes. This area shows a mix of dense wooded wetlands and growing rural communities as they appeared in the late 1970s. The settlement of Watson serves as a local hub, anchored by Live Oak High Sch and several churches including Live Oak Ch. The river's influence is evident in the numerous Gravel Pits and pits scattered along its banks, particularly near Plainview. Local history is preserved in family-named landmarks such as the Newsom Cem and Womack Cem, while the Indian Mound near Camp Istrouma points to a much deeper history of human habitation on the bluffs above Sandy Creek.
