The Salmon River carves a deep path through the central portion of this wilderness landscape, defining the boundaries between several national forests. Along its banks, localized river bars such as Lantz Bar and Fawn Creek Bar indicate the limited flat ground available for river-side activity or historical access points. High above the water, Waugh Mtn and Lost Packer Peak command the eastern skyline, while Phantom Ridge and Otter Ridge dominate the southwestern quadrant. This area is characterized by high-elevation peaks and narrow drainages, such as Canyon Creek and Eagle Creek, which feed into the primary river system. The convergence of the Salmon National Forest, Bitterroot National Forest, and Payette National Forest illustrates the complex administrative geography of this remote portion of Idaho County.
