Wedding Cake Butte and its namesake Wedding Cake Ranch Airport define this high-desert corner of Union County at the New Mexico-Colorado border. The landscape is characterized by a network of drainage systems and early water management infrastructure, including the Dry Cimarron River and several irrigation works such as the South Behemer Ditch and Berry Ditch. These ditches reflect the essential role of water rights and engineering in supporting ranching operations within the arid basins.
